Kazari (飾り): “decoration”
Nawa (縄): rope

Coming from the new years decoration called shimekazari, consisting of a shimenawa (a sacred rice straw rope), pine and orange.

Kazari nawa can refer to decorative rope. For example the “makramee” that you tie to create that so beautiful Japanese aesthetic in your ties. These aesthetics can also reinforce your tie. This often comes from “burning”  your “left over” rope.

I’ve seen this called: Amari nawa (余り縄), Amatta nawa (余った縄).
