In Memoriam: Saikatsu 才勝さんが, 1940 – Jul 1, 2024 4:23PM

Saikatsu-san was not very well know in the West, he was the main assistent to Akechi Denki and took over teaching rope in his masters style.

He was diagnosed with pancreatic and lung cancer in September 2023 and was told he had only a short time left to live. He was undergoing treatment with medication but got in bad health since June and was hospitalized. He passed away  due to pancreatic cancer surrounded by his son and daughter.

For me Saikatsu-san was the man that introduced me to Akechi’s style of tying when I was in Japan. He was a very humble man and you could see tears in his eyes when Denki came up in conversation.

We all die. The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.
