Kinbaku Elements are larger and smaller bits and pieces of information to learn and grow in your Japanese rope bondage, aka kinbaku or shibari, skill.

This element will guide you in the three steps you need to make in order to master the skill of kinbaku, any skill for that matter.

1. Believe that you can learn kinbaku

Here’s the thing, if you don’t believe you can be good at kinbaku, you can’t. Here’s the other thing If you believe you can be good at kinbaku, you can! If you truly believe you can become good at Japanese rope bondage, if you think you can become as good as… well, me; you can and you will! Believe!

2. Dedicate 20% on theory and 80% on tying.

When you begin studying kinbaku spend 20% of your time learning (i.e. patterns), thinking (i.e. how to apply the patterns into your style) and getting your information, tips and tricks. Then spend 80% of your time on actually doing rope! Try things, and fail. Failure is the proof you tried, try again. Doing rope will start making new connections in your brain, connections you need to not fail and be awesome in kinbaku.

3. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat

Repetition is the mother of skill. Repeat what is working for you. The more you repeat the better you become at it.

4. Don’t give up

I know I said three steps, but take note. It will usually take you twice as much time and effort as you thought it would take to learn kinbaku. Don’t give up too easily or early, you can do this!
